DHIKR IS THE GREATEST OF ALL ACTS OF WORSHIP

Allah Almighty says in Al-Ankabut-45:

Al-Ankabut-45 Recite (read and explain to others) which has been revealed to you of the Book and keep up the Prayer. Surely the Prayer keeps away from Al-Fahsha (to do what Allah prohibits) and from Al-Munkar (from denying what Allah commands). And certainly, the dhikr (remembrance) of Allah is the greatest, and Allah knows what you do.

"Recitation of Holy Qur'an is a dhikr, performing salat (prayer) is also a form of dhikr (remembrance of Allah). But dhikrullah (repeating the name of Allah as Allah, Allah, Allah) is the greatest of all," says Allah Almighty. "Prayer is a pillar of religion," they say, all right. If prayer is a pillar of religion, then dhikr (the repetition of the name of Allah) is the tent of religion. The pillar does not mean anything without a tent. Just as a tent protects us from all kinds of physical events, such as rain, hail, snow and wind, dhikr protects people from spiritual pests by eliminating the vices of the soul.

Consider this reality carefully. Allahû Tealâ says: “Allah does not engage in anything without purpose; everything He does is directed toward a definite aim.” So then, what is the purpose of Allah Almighty in commanding dhikr?
