Being for Allah, living for Allah, is a system of ascension. There will be a journey of the spirit towards Allah. It will pass through 7 heavenly floors one by one. On the 7th floor, after passing through 7 worlds, the spirit will reach the Essence of Allah and in the Essence of Allah it will be annihilated, it will be annihilated, it will disappear. This is why the process at this point is called fenafillah: "Fenâ: To become extinct. Fî: In. Allah."

What does it mean to reach His Essence? It means that you become one of the Awliya (saints). They always say, "Awliya? Oh, they were in the past. What kind of saints are there nowadays?" Tell them: "Yes. There are saints in this time, too. Allah says so." Wali means friend, awliya means friends. Allah wants to make you friends; He wants to make you lovers. 

It is only possible for the spirit to reach Allah before death through the purification of the soul. The purification of the soul means that 51% of the vices in the heart of the soul are replaced by virtues (2% of which are mercy).

An-Nur-21: O you who believe (who are âmenû, who wish their spirits to reach Allahbefore death), do not follow the footsteps of Satan! And whosoever follows the footsteps of Satan, then surely, he commands (every) abomination and evil (the denial and all that Allah has forbidden). And if it had not been for the Generosity and Mercy of Allah unto you (if these lights had not be placed into the hearts of your souls), none of you could have ever cleansed his soul, but Allah cleanses the souls of whom He wills and Allah is All-Hearing, All- Knowing.

Dhikr (repetition of the name of Allah) is the factor that allows the lights of mercy and virtue to reach our hearts.

Al-Hadid-16: Has not the time yet come for those who are amenu (who wish their spirits to reach Allah while they are alive) that their hearts to have reverence with praise (the remembrance) of Allah and what comes down from the Truth (with the lights from Allah)? Let them not be like those who were given the Book before, but after a long time whose hearts became hardened (due to forgetting praise, remembrance of Allah). Most of them are ungodly ones.

"What comes down from the Truth through the remembrance of Allah" are the lights of Allah's mercy and virtue. Dhikr, like a cipher, causes the lights of Allah to come into the heart of the soul.

The spirit of the person who wishes to reach Allah and depends on his/her Murshid (religious guide) sets out towards Allah through Sıratı Mustakîm and the purification of the soul begins in parallel.

Az-Zumar-23: Allah sent down the most beautiful of His Words (His lights salavat- mercy and salavat- generosity) in pairs, similar to the Book. From this (light) the skin of those who are in awe of their Lord shudders. And then their skin and hearts soften (calm down) while praising Allah. This is the Return (of the spirit to) Allah. By this (light) He will return (to Himself the spirit of whomever He wills). And whom Allah leaves in Astray, then there is no one for him, who return (no the holy teacher)!

Through the purification of the soul, the spirit reaches Allah.

Fatir-18: And no bearer of burdens (sinful) bears another’s burden (sin) and if one heavily laden calls another to (bear) his load, nothing of it will be lifted even though he be near of kin. You warn only those who are in reverence towards their Lord in the Unseen (without seeing Him) and keep up the Prayer. And whoever cleanses himself (his soul), he purifies himself only for his own soul and to Allah is the return (through the soul’s cleansing, the spirit returns to Allah).
