CLEANSING OF THE SOUL

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” (Psalms 51:1,2-Old Testament)

Happiness is a process of acquiring a quality. With the lights that fill the heart of your soul, you will become a person such that negative factors will not affect you. You will be shielded against all darkness. You will become a person from whom joy spreads to everyone around you. You will experience the happiness you give to them bounces back to you.”

The cleansing of the soul is the term used to describe the ability to implant the lights of God in the heart of our soul more than halfway. Lord Almighty says:

“Indeed, We created man (his soul) in the best form (with the qualities that allow him to reach the highest level through the purification and refinement of the soul). Then We returned him to the lowest of the low (to the darkest states of his soul).” (At-Tin-4, 5-Holy Quran)

“We created the soul equipped with vices, but we created it with the ability to reach the best state and to surrender to God within a certain period of time.”

After repentance took place in front of the spiritual guide, the deeds of righteousness (the acts that reform the soul) begin. When a person engages in remembrance (dhikr- repetition of the name of God), two groups of light, named mercy and blessings, come from God.

The virtues gather around the word of faith that God has inscribed in the heart. The soul is cleansed through the accumulation of these virtues in seven stages.

At each stage, the negative traits decrease resulting in a 51% purification of the soul. The initial surrender of the spirit to God occurs through the cleansing of the soul

“…And if it were not for the mercy and grace of God upon you (if it had not settled in the hearts of your souls), none of you could ever purify his soul. But Allah purifies whom He wills…” (Nûr21-Holy Quran)

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)” (Ephesians 5:8,9-Holy Bible)

Therefore, a person’s heart does not become pure merely by saying, “My heart is clean.” If there is no cleansing of the soul, the amount of darkness in the soul’s heart does not change. Under the influence of the vices, a person will continue to exhibit wrong behaviors.

The key to the cleansing of the soul is remembrance (repeating the name of our Lord)

“And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with complete devotion.” (Muzemmil 8-Holy Quran)

Dear brothers and sisters! God loves all of you very much. This part we have described is a gift from our Lord to everyone. It is not possible to attain this gift without repentance. For this reason, the repentance performed in front of the spiritual guide is of utmost importance.
