Responsibility in Religious Matters Belongs to the Intellect.

Yunus-8: As for those, their abode is the Fire for what they have earned (negative degrees).

Yunus-7: Surely they do not wish to reach Us (they do not wish their spirits to reach Us before death). They are pleased with the life of the world and are satisfied with it, and those are the ones who are heedless of Our Verses.

In order to make the right evaluation in the face of events, we must absolutely live a life based on the Holy Qur’an. Otherwise, a person is nothing but a ruin. Throughout his life he will be doomed to remain on the first or second step. And the place they will end up—based on the degrees they have earned—will, unfortunately, be Hell.

A person who has nothing of the Qur’an in his heart is like a ruined house.” (S: Tirmidhi, Darimi, 3349.)

The Sultan of the Nabîs, our Prophet (PBUH), says:

As understood from the hadith, Allah Almighty intends through the events He makes people experience that they should wish to reach Him.

"My brother Gabriel said to me: ‘Allah says: I have revealed that the world shall be bitter, troubled, narrow, and full of hardship for My friends so that they will wish to reach Me.’” (S: Jami‘ al-Saghir, Hadith No: 3276. Narrated by Aisha, PBUH.)

Our Prophet (PBUH) says that:

The intellect will fulfill the divine target commands step by step. And the degree to which a person fulfills these commands determines the level of his religion. For example: the religion of someone who only wishes to reach Allah is limited to that level alone. Indeed, there is a corresponding level of Paradise for each stage. The one who fulfills the first obligatory command — that is, wishing to reach Allah — will go to the first level of Paradise. The one who repents and pledges allegiance to a spiritual guide (murshid) will go to the second level of Paradise, because he has fulfilled the second obligatory command. Therefore, the saying in the hadith, ‘A person’s religion is according to the measure of his mind,’ completely aligns with the Holy Qur’an.

While people are in the first step, experiencing events, they can only comprehend through the intellect that they feel happiness when following the commands of the spirit, and unhappiness when following the commands of the soul. The role of the intellect is vital in the journey towards happiness, especially during the evaluation of events and the stage of wishing to reach Allah. If our intellect has been awakened in a soul-centered environment, it will naturally lean toward the negative desires of the soul. In such a case, a person’s intellect will lead them towards Hell. To illustrate the importance of the environment in which the intellect becomes conscious: If two people are in a room at night with the lights on, they can see each other. But if the lights are turned off, they can no longer see in the total darkness. The pupils are still there, but to function, they need light. Without light, they cannot see. Just as light is necessary for the eyes to see, the verses (āyāt) of Allah are necessary for the intellect to perceive. Therefore, for the intellect to become truly conscious, the presence of Allah’s verses is essential.

Our spirit is from the Spirit of Allah; it has a nature that fulfills all of Allah’s commands and never commits any acts that He has forbidden to us, so it was entrusted to us in the most perfect (ahsan) form. This is true for the spirit of every human being. However, at the starting point, the physical body and the soul (nafs) do not share this same nature. Allah Almighty wants both the physical body and the soul to be surrendered to Him in a state that they obey all His commands and avoid all forbidden acts. The intellect, which commands the physical body, governs it through the brain. The intellect has two advisors: one is the spirit, the other is the soul. The spirit is the representative of Allah while the soul is the representative of Satan.

As-Sajdah-9: Then He designed him and breathed into him (into his physical body) of His Spirit, and gave you (sense of) hearing and (sense of) seeing and (sense of) comprehension. How little you thank!

Allah Almighty states that He breathed into us from His spirit in the 9th verse of Surah As-Sajdah.

Ash-Shams-7 and (by) the soul and the One Who designed it (so that it can transform into the best within seven stages),

In 7th verse of Surah Ash-Shams, it is mentioned that our soul body is designed in seven stages.

Al-Hijr-26: I swear that We created human from moist soil (Hamein Mesnûn Salsùlin, that has undergone an organic and inorganic transformation and has been given a standard shape of a human being).

Allah Almighty created human beings with 3 bodies, free will and intellect. The 26th verse of Surah Al-Hijr mentions our physical body created from a soil called salsalin.

Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) says:

“O my Lord! I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, from the torment of Hell, from the trials of life and death, and from being afflicted by the temptation (fitnah) of the Dajjal.” (S: Bukhari, Jana’iz, 88; Muslim, Masajid, 128–134.)
